Last week I shared how to take the time to clean the 'gunk' out of your life that's keeping things from working as well as they used to. This week we're focusing on noticing where your habit patterns may need some reorientation, including even dropping them cold turkey.

Week after week, I kept sabotaging my daily walk.

Now, since I was technically putting in the steps, my 6-year streak was still going.

But even though my feet were moving, my attention was not focused on the thing that makes this time so powerful for me.

Instead, I was increasingly finding my whole walk hijacked by playing my kids' Pokemon Go accounts.

This started with good intentions.

My kids loved the game and my daily walks helped their 'buddies' get rewards. Plus I would catch coveted 'shinys' and they would clamor to see what I caught for them.

And then their interest waned and eventually I was playing the game but they never asked about it.

I had started the habit because it made me feel like I was a 'good mom', earning some cool points with the kids and supporting our Connection Glow.

I kept doing it because it gave me the false sense that I was doing something for the kids, but it was really outweighed by the fact that my Mental, Emotional, Sovereign and Sensory Glow were floundering, in addition to my Connection Glow with myself.

I knew this was a problem. I named this as an issue. I mentioned it to the neighbor I occasionally run into... but I just couldn't stop.

Until I did.

It's been at least two weeks since I stopped playing the dang app cold turkey.

And guess what...

The kids haven't asked me about it. And I'm noticing I have more presence and capacity to support our Connection Glow in ways that matter to them now.

Habits are great, but if they don't evolve with you, then they are serving your Glow in the ways your needs have evolved.

Recognizing where patterns have shifted is a key component to helping your Glow flow. This kind of awareness helps you realign your actions with more strategic purpose toward what your Glow (and your goals) needs.

Ask yourself-

  • What things do I say I need to quit, but need the nudge to actually make happen?
  • What are things I do out of habit, but feel like they aren't creating the same benefits?
  • How can I shift my habits to be more aligned with what I am orienting myself toward?
  • What Glow gaps do I notice and how can I adjust my habits to bridge them?
  • How would the subsequent Glow boost have ripple effects in my life?

(The Glow Clarity sessions are a nervous-system attuned way to notice patterns that could be adjusted and help you notice where you are in this journey called life.)

Reader, I know you do so much out of love and the desire to make those you love feel loved. But it's important to remember that your Glow matters too and to listen to yourself when you say you need to quit something.
