Seasons affect more than just the natural world. Our lives and energy go through their own seasons and when we can notice them, it makes it a lot easier to orient our actions in ways that move the needle with more ease.
Learn how to use the 'season of mud' to help you make changes to your own patterns and habits, even if it makes things a little messy.
Hi Reader!
Now that it's officially spring, we have also started to enter a new season around here in Michigan.
The time of year when the ground gets saturated and things get squelchy and squishy.
It's easy to leave ruts and footprints behind when we cross these parts.
And changing the terrain we leave behind when things dry out.
The trail ruts that inspired this story.
On one of my walks this week (day 2,305), I noticed how the hard pack paths are drying out in a couple spots and that the tire ruts and boot prints have hardened into the mud, leaving the path rutted and uneven.
It made me think how there are certain seasons in our own life that resemble seasons of mud.
Times that make it easeful (or even inevitable) that we will change our landscape of patterns and habits because the conditions are sensitive and malleable.
And if we're not aware of it, we could leave ruts that we stumble on for months to come.
What patterns or habits are you stumbling over? What things have felt 'stuck in the mud' and impossible to change?
Let's take a note from Mother Nature and notice when the conditions are ripe for making change more easeful.
Start by noticing what things are causing you to leak your energy, stumble or add friction to your day and the path you are on.
Then tune into when the timing is right to make adjustments to the terrain of your daily life, when things are a bit 'squishy' and easier to change.
Sure, it may be a little messy, but it sure beats having to put in a whole lot more effort when circumstances have dried things up or you're nursing a metaphorical sprained ankle after tripping over them time and again.
Noticing when your system and circumstances are primed to make change are key to making the necessary adjustments that create more ease and flow into your life.
Ask yourself-
When is a past 'season of mud' where making a change was easier than at a different time?
When is a time when you tried to force a change that wasn't worth the effort?
What season are you in right now?
How can you best align your actions with your season?
What changes are you preparing to make in your next 'season of mud'?
When you can notice and tap into the flow of your energetic seasons, you stop feeling like you are in a fight with life and feel more supported. This kind of signal intelligence helps you orient and respond wisely.
Reader, I'm trying to be more curious about what my own muddy season looks like so that I can set myself up for a smooth end of the school year (as our Little League commitments stack up).
Noticing what patterns and routines aren't supporting us is top on my list so that we can head off the growing friction before it creates a big 'splosion.

Three things that are adding more 'yay' to my day this week-
📚
I don't really follow reality shows (though I did get sucked into a couple seasons of the Bachelor back in the day), but this book has been a bit of a page turner as I'm in the last few chapters.
One of my favorite artists released a new single this week and I love it. I stumbled upon a great interview and I can't wait to hear more about the stories behind the songs in the coming album.
Sara Adamchak and I talked this week for an episode of her rebranded podcast. It felt so good getting to sit down with a 'stranger on the internet turned business bestie' for a second time.
